If the doctor or nurse arranges a blood, urine or other test including radiology investigations, the results of these usually reach the surgery in 7-10 working days, except cervical smears which take one month.
Unless you have an appointment for review, you should telephone the surgery between 10.00 am and 3.00pm to enquire if the result needs further attention. Results can only be given to the person who has had the test unless written consent has been given for someone else to obtain results on their behalf.
If you have been to the hospital and a doctor there arranged for you to have a test, you should contact the hospital for the result.
Any specimens or samples should be brought into reception before 3.00pm, so that they can be ready for delivery before 3.30pm. Please ensure that any specimens you leave at the practice are correctly labelled with your name and date of birth. Failure to do so may mean that the test will need to be repeated.
Please note that we do not send specimens to be tested unless it has been requested by a clinician either in practice or externally.
